The Indianapolis Colts can overcome the loss of WR Reggie Wayne

Matt Hasselbeck has been through this before, but, when you've been around as long as Hasselbeck, you've been through just about everything, including the War of 1812.

This was early October 2005, and his Seattle Seahawks had just lost their two top receivers, Bobby Engram and Darrell Jackson, to injuries in the same game against Washington.

From the dark edges of the depth chart, Joe Jurevicius stepped up and caught nine passes for 137 yards in Seattle's 37 31 victory over the then explosive St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks would eventually win 11 straight games and reach the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, nobody is dumb enough to compare Reggie Wayne with Engram and/or Jackson. Wayne has a chance at the Hall of Fame. The two Seattle receivers were just guys. And both Engram and Jackson returned later that season; Brian Cushing Jersey Wayne is done for the year. And it's up to guys getting third chances, like LaVon Brazill and Weslye Saunders. Hilton, who wants to show he can be an alpha dog, and Griff Whalen, who hopes to show he belongs on the active roster for good.

It's up to Andrew Luck, who understands that great quarterbacks must raise the level of play of those around them, just as Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers has done with a bunch of no name receivers.

If the Colts need direction or inspiration, check out the Indiana Pacers. They lost an All Star caliber player, Danny Granger, to what could have been a season crushing injury last year. At the time, Paul George was just a guy with potential. At the time, Lance Stephenson was a player who was fighting for a spot in the rotation.

Given the opportunity, both grew into key players on a team that stretched Miami to seven games in the Eastern Conference finals.

Attrition is part of the game. Bad teams wither; playoff teams find a way.

"I think we just kind of stick with what we're doing," coach Chuck Pagano said this week. "Things might change in certain downs, distances, things like that. Obviously, our quarterback had a high comfort level with (Wayne) on any down, particularly third down. We got guys that we can plug in. Again, you can't replace a guy like Reggie, http://www.texansofficialproshop.com/Nike-Jj-Watt-Jersey.html but again, we feel good about the guys we have and feel like they'll come in and they'll do what they have to do to help us win the game."

One thing I'd like to see is greater use of Richardson and Brown out of the backfield in passing situations. Richardson caught 51 passes for the Browns last year, but has been a cipher in the Colts' Arian Foster Authentic Jersey passing game. And we know what Brown can do when he's out in space.

They also need to get Richardson untracked in the running game. He's still running into brick walls and eight men boxes. He's usually running in running situations, out of running formations. The results have been three yards and a cloud of dust.

"I think I have to do a better job of coming up with schemes that not only give our offensive line a chance to be successful, but of course to create holes www.texansofficialproshop.com/Nike-Jadeveon-Clowney-Jersey.html for Trent," Hamilton said. "Create schemes that complement his wealth of talent. That's one of the things that we spent time as Arian Foster Youth Jersey an offensive staff just looking at during the bye week."

Let's be honest: You don't replace a potential Hall of Fame worthy wide receiver, especially when he still Brian Cushing Kids Jersey seems to be in his prime. There are three guys the Colts could not afford to lose without it having a deleterious impact: Luck, Robert Mathis and Wayne. To think they'll pick up where they left off is complete folly.

ESPN Stats Info has done the numbers crunching, and they are pretty compelling and scary.

Since Luck came into the league last year, Wayne has been on the field for 92.2 percent of the team's offensive snaps. During that time, Luck's quarterback rating has been 69 on ESPN's 0 100 scale.

Somewhere on the Colts depth chart, there's another Joe Jurevicius, ready to make a name for himself.
